About us
Whistle & Bloom
The Family
The Herbert family have proudly called Maungatapere home for the past 25 years, building strong and enduring connections within the local community. Over this time, they have developed meaningful relationships founded on trust, involvement, and a genuine commitment to the area they love.
Sisters Rachel and Laurie, alongside their families, are now working together to create a vibrant community space for all to enjoy. They believe this special place is something worth sharing and are passionate about fostering connection, learning, and wellbeing. With a strong focus on self-sufficiency, they are dedicated to educating and inspiring others to grow their own gardens and embrace sustainable living.
Above all, they aim to provide a welcoming environment where families can relax, children can explore freely, and the wider community can come together in a positive and enriching setting.
Dahlias are the stars of Summer – blooming generously through the warm months in a stunning range of colours and forms. from soft pastels to bold statement blooms, our collection offers something for every occasion. Each season we continue to expand and refine our garden, introducing new varieties as Whistle and Bloom grows and evolves into a flourishing sea of summer flowers.
Mission Statement
At Whistle & Bloom, our mission is to create a welcoming, restorative community space in Whangārei where families can reconnect — with nature, with one another, and with themselves. We recognise the growing need for environments where young families can step away from the pace of everyday life, relax with confidence, and allow their children the freedom to run, explore, and simply be children.
Whistle & Bloom is designed to be food for the soul — a place that nurtures wellbeing through open space, fresh air, and meaningful experiences. By offering exposure to farm life and hands-on learning opportunities, we aim to inspire curiosity, resilience, and a deeper understanding of where food comes from.
Our commitment is to foster connection, encourage self-sufficiency, and cultivate a sense of belonging within the Whangārei community. Through shared experiences in a safe and thoughtfully created environment, we hope to support families in building lasting memories while embracing the simple, grounding joys of rural life.
